Preparing for your Trip
Psalms 96:3 NKJV“Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.”
Psalm 96:3 is part of a hymn that lifts the name of the Lord and praising Him for all that he has done. We are usually so eager to tell people when we are in love. That same excitement should be true of how we want to share the love and goodness of God. We should be so filled with love for Him and the blessings of the Spirit that we cannot keep silent!
L.I.F.E. is an organization that is filled with that kind of love for God. We want to share Him with the world. We are excited that you are considering joining us for one of our many mission’s trips to share the love and salvation that only comes from Jesus Christ.
Getting ready to go on any mission’s trip can be intimidating.
How do you decide where to go?
Once you decide, what are your next steps?
How do I get in touch with those who are in charge?
What do I have to offer?
Hopefully this page will help you answer all your questions and more.
We are excited that you want to pursue the Great Commission and share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the people of the world. The first step to any mission’s trip is prayer.
1. Pray.
Mark 16:15 NKJV
“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.'”
It is not a question that we should share the Gospel of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He told us to GO! and spread the Word of the salvation that can only come through knowing Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. So, pray about taking any missions trip. Pray for direction, support, and clarity as to where God would have you go. The question isn’t IF you should go but where you should go.
If you are looking for a mission’s trip, then God has already laid on your heart that it is time for you to go. Now you pray about where He is sending you.
2. Talk to the leadership at your church.
The best support for your trip will come through your church family. Most churches are happy to get behind their members who decide to spread the gospel across the globe. Having your church get behind you will give you the support and courage that will help to propel you into preparing for the trip of a lifetime!
3. Research the cost of the trip.
L.I.F.E. will help to prepare you and your team for the finances that it will take to go on your chosen trip. We have a coordinator that will help to choose flights and arrange transportation. You will work closely with your coordinator as you plan for you or your team to get to your chosen destination.
From airplanes to trains and ground transportation we help you get coordinated so that you get to your destination safely.
4. Prepare for your trip.
*Get or update your Passport.
If you don’t have a US Passport, be sure to apply at least 3 months in advance. For more details on obtaining a US Passport or updating your passport, check with your local Post Office. All updated rules for application, the application process, and rules about updating your passport are available through your local Post Office.
*Start raising support.
How you raise support is up to you. We suggest speaking to your church family first about how they would like to help you raise your support. We also encourage you to write a letter of support or a request for support. As the money comes in your coordinator will tell you where to send the money so that it is appropriately applied to your travel account.
*Research the people and culture of your chosen destination.
Knowing the culture of where you are going helps you to understand better how to share the love of Jesus. Many of the behaviors and actions of your culture might not be acceptable in another country. If you want to be able to speak to those around you in your chosen destination, you don’t want to cause an offense, even if accidental. Studying the culture will help you to avoid these pitfalls.
You do not have to speak the language of where you are headed. As always, it helps if you know some of the language, but translators are provided and you will also be working with the head of the ministry that is already living and working in the country you will be serving. They will be excited about you coming and help you understand the language.
*Pray continually about your trip.
Prayer is your most important preparation. Deciding to go into the world to spread the love of Jesus is the first step. Praying about how God would use you is your second step. Never stop praying! God uses prayer to open doors. Prayer breaks down cultural barriers, language barriers, and breaks through fear.
We will be praying with you as you take this journey to working with Life Impact For Eternity.
*Stay in touch with your coordinator as you work out the details of your trip.
You are going to have many questions throughout this process of taking a mission’s trip. We are here to help you. There is no question too small or dumb. If your coordinator does not know the answer (which is highly unlikely!) then they will work to find the answer for you as soon as possible.
From exchanging money to getting the correct paperwork, your coordinator will be there to pray with you through every step and get you prepared.
5. Get EXCITED!
God has called you to this. Get ready to see Him work!
